The Secret to Success

I’ve often found myself wondering what successful people’s secret was. Or even if it was a secret or possibly just something I had not yet grasped. For all extensive purposes, it couldn’t necessarily be their background or even their level of intelligence. While in many cases those are contributing factors there must be something else. What about those exceptional cases? Or even those moments you surprise yourself with your own knowledge, knowledge that you hadn’t even realized you had? What is the mystery behind mastery?

Have you ever found yourself watching someone else complete a simple task with such concentration and precision that you were in awe by them? I remember watching a close friend growing up, and she would do the simplest thing with such eloquence. I always found myself envious of her eloquence until I established it myself, seemingly out of nowhere.

So what was it? Or more appropriately where was the key to unlock your potential? Potential can only be seen in the present moment. What does that mean? It means slow down, clear your mind, and be aware of only what you are doing right now. Don’t even allow yourself to consider the outcome, only consider exactly what you are doing at this moment. Focus on quality rather than quantity.

Mother Theresa once said, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” All great accomplishments are composed of the small tasks that got you there.  When you put all of your effort into the present moment, you find excellence within yourself. The foundation of success is found within the present moment and what you choose to make of it.

Now build your life around the present moment. Build your life around NOW. Live for today and let tomorrow take care of itself. Live in the present moment and you will find peace.
